BLUE CAVE AND BIŠEVO ISLAND
The Blue Cave is situated on the island of Biševo, one of the small islands in central Dalmatia, Croatia. The Blue Cave is renowned for its unique blue light, created by the reflection of sunlight off the seabed. The entrance to the Blue Cave is extremely narrow, allowing only small boats and dinghies to enter. The best time to visit is in the morning when sunlight creates an intense blue reflection on the water inside the cave. Inside the cave, the water is remarkably deep, and the expanse of rock creates a unique acoustic environment. The cave was known to local fishermen but gained global recognition after a visit by Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I in 1826. Biševo, the island housing the Blue Cave, features a peaceful fishing village with traditional Dalmatian charm.
The surrounding sea is rich in diverse marine life, including dolphins that occasionally accompany boats near the island. The island of Biševo and the Blue Cave are under UNESCO protection to preserve the natural beauty and ecosystem of this unique area.
